I drew all weekend long

I drew all weekend long.  Finished a couple of pieces and started some new ones.  Here is one of my bigger drawings.  It measures 11" x 14".

Mixing Media

I love drawing by hand, but I also love to use PhotoShop.  So many times I combine the two.  Here is an example.  The color textures come from a digital scrapbook kit I bought a couple of years ago.

Working big

I have done a couple of larger pieces in the last few weeks.  This one is 11" x 14".

Kept busy during a four hour training meeting at work.  I dropped some digital scrapbook paper behind the drawing to give it some color.

 

Feels good to be drawing again

After my book released and my two art shows were completed, I took a break.  I had "drawers block."  My imagination was dormant.  Instead, I started reading and reading and reading.  I guess I was making up for all the years I never cracked a book.  One day I forced myself to draw something.  So I drew a green bean.  It was pathetic, but at least I had a pen in my hand again.  I drew the big mushroom in this piece a few weeks ago and then walked away from it.  This weekend I picked it back up and finished it.

MUSHROOM GUY...moves quietly along the forest floor. Makes not one sound as he inventories the early morning new growth.

Collection Drawing

I have been into "collection drawing" lately.  I have been drawing buildings of LA, all of my restaurant receipts, rabbits I find on Google image search, coins of the world.  Strange I know, but it is a lot of fun.

When I came across the Zentangle drawing below that I did many months ago, I realized I had another "collection drawing."  After I scanned it, I took into Adobe Illustrator and practiced using the color guide and edit feature.  The options are endless.

More fabric designing

Can't stop making patterns for fabric.

For years friends have told me I should apply my designs to fabric.  Sounded good to me, but I knew I would have to master Adobe Illustrator first.  The program is on my computer and the few times I opened it, I immediately closed it.  Illustrator is a monster program, and I knew I would not be able to fumble my way through it.

Finally feeling motivated, I spent many nights watching video tutorials learning how to use Illustrator to make repeating patterns.  Some of my first attempts were pitiful, but I hung in there.  Below are images from my latest endeavors.  I think I am getting better.

I have been teaching myself how to use Adobe Illustrator to make patterns by pulling elements out of various Zentangle pieces I have drawn.  Here are a couple of my creations.
